Relire trente-cinq ans après leur parution les petites annonces de « Sandwich » — l’éphémère supplément de Libération —, y chercher les miettes de l’année 1980, c’est ce que j’ai entrepris de faire, ciseaux à la main. Découper une colonne, fureter dans une double page, éplucher de bout en bout une rubrique ou procéder par collages subjectifs. Autant d’expériences de lecture qui ont fait naître ce recueil protéiforme.
Aux petites annonces s’ajoutent des bulletins météo ou des relevés sismiques de la même période. À travers ces événements de faible intensité, je fais le pari rêveur de revisiter un segment de notre histoire si proche et si lointaine. En captant le grain le plus fin de ce qui s’est passé et qui toujours échappe. En enregistrant ce petit rien qui fait pourtant l’épaisseur de nos vies.
To reread, thirty-five years after publication, classified ads from “Sandwich” – the ephemeral Libération supplement – seeking crumbs of 1980, is what I set out to do, scissors in hand; cutting out columns, snooping through the spreads, peeling from one end to another section by section and then making subjective collages. Many different experiences of reading have created this multifaceted collection.
To these ads are added weather reports and seismic surveys from the same period. Through these low-intensity events, he dares the dreamer to revisit a period of our history that is at once close and yet so far away, capturing the fine grain of that which happened and those who always escape; recording all these little nothings that nonetheless form the heft of our lives.
